Vaginal repair surgery: vaginal tightening, hymen reconstruction, for a loose vagina, a vagina that no longer feels tight, and vaginal wind
Repair, or vaginal repair surgery, is an operation that reshapes the muscles and repairs loose tissue inside the vagina to make it tighter. Its aim is to reduce the size of the vagina, or make its diameter smaller, and give it better contraction than before. The surgeon reshapes the vagina along its full depth, reshapes the inner tissue, and reconstructs the hymen, together with tightening the skin around the vaginal opening. This helps the vagina contract and spring back better. After vaginal tightening surgery, the vagina becomes fit, firm and tighter again, restoring youthfulness and strength for the strong women of 2022. It ends the problems of a vagina that no longer feels tight, a loose vagina, vaginal wind and air escaping from the vagina, restoring confidence in your relationship and in the bedroom.

Preparing for vaginal repair and tightening surgery
- Have a cervical cancer screening before surgery
- Stop taking blood thinners, steroids, painkillers, anti-inflammatory muscle medicines, vitamins and all supplements for at least 2 weeks before surgery (for medicines for underlying conditions, follow the advice of your treating doctor)
- Tell your surgeon about any underlying conditions, medicines for those conditions, previous surgeries, drug allergies and any supplements you take
- Do not smoke or drink alcohol for at least 2 weeks before surgery and for at least 1 week after, to reduce the risk of infection after vaginal tightening surgery. Substances in cigarettes also reduce the amount of oxygen in the blood, which may make wounds heal more slowly than normal.
- This surgery is performed under general anaesthesia given by an anaesthesiologist. Before surgery, patients must not eat or drink for at least 8 hours.
- Remove nail polish and nail extensions before the day of surgery, as the anaesthesiologist needs to measure oxygen levels at your fingertip, and nail polish or extensions will make the readings inaccurate
- If you are currently unwell, for example with a fever, cough, sore throat, diarrhoea, an infected wound, red or sore eyes, etc., please inform the nurse at least 2 days before surgery
Tips: getting ready for the day of your vaginal tightening surgery
- Arrive 1-2 hours before your surgery time to prepare
- Shower and wash your hair on the day of surgery. Do not wear contact lenses, make-up or nail polish; remove false nails; and do not wear lotion, perfume or jewellery on the day of surgery. Please leave valuables at home.
- Wear loose clothing with a zip or buttons at the front, and a skirt that is easy to take off on the day of surgery. Do not wear tight-fitting clothes or trousers.
- Do not drive yourself or come alone; a companion or relative must accompany you on the day of surgery
- Prepare yourself mentally and try not to get too anxious. Be aware that swelling is normal after surgery, and it takes time for the wounds to heal and for you to get used to the new you.
How to look after yourself after vaginal repair and tightening surgery
- Drink enough plain water for your body’s needs
- Get plenty of sleep and rest so your body can repair itself
- Move as little as possible and keep walking to a minimum
- You can eat all kinds of food; focus on high-fibre foods to help with bowel movements
- You can shower, clean the surgical wound on the perineum, and wash your body with soap as normal
- Clean the surgical area after urinating by patting with wet wipes, and after a bowel movement by rinsing with plain water and gently patting dry with a cloth
- Take your medicines as prescribed by your doctor and return to see your surgeon as scheduled
- If you notice anything unusual, such as swelling, bruising or being unable to urinate, return to see your surgeon
What to avoid after vaginal repair surgery
- Avoid dampness around the wound to help the surgical wound stay dry and heal faster
- Avoid holding in urine or stools. Avoid straining from constipation by eating plenty of high-fibre food or taking laxatives.
- Avoid alcohol and fermented or pickled foods, and do not smoke, for at least 3-4 weeks after surgery
What to stop doing after vaginal tightening surgery
- Stop your usual daily activities for the first 2-3 days after surgery
- Do not do strenuous work, and avoid lifting heavy objects for about 1 month after surgery
- Do not exercise for 1 month after surgery
- Avoid sex for at least 45 days to make sure the wound has fully healed and to prevent it from opening or tearing
What to know after vaginal repair and tightening surgery
- In the first 2-3 days after surgery, there may be some bleeding from the vagina. You can wear a sanitary pad to absorb any blood that seeps from the wound.
- You may feel an urge to bear down as if you need a bowel movement in the first 2-3 days after surgery. Lie down, rest and monitor your symptoms, which also helps reduce pain and inflammation at the surgical wound.
- After surgery, you may have cloudy white to yellowish discharge and more vaginal itching than usual. Take oral medicine or use vaginal suppositories to treat fungal infection as prescribed by your surgeon.
